Mar 15, 2012 (newstodate): Bombardier is seeing an attractive market for its Q400 aircraft in Russia.
The aircraft manufacturer is deep into the process of obtaining certification of the aircraft for use on Russia's domestic flights, expecting this process to be completed by this summer already.
Market estimates are that Russia and the CIS stages might need some 50-200 aircraft over the next five years, leaving ample room for imports of the Q400 in addition to the ATR that is already plying Russian domestic routes, with the Russian charter carrier NordStar already operating four ATR 42-500 aircraft and first to order five ATR 42-600, plus options for a further two units.
A total of 38 ATR aircraft are currently operated by NordStar, UTAir and Azerbaijan Airlines, and the company has the delivery of a further 15 aircraft on its backlog.
