Mar 29, 2012 (newstodate): In February 2012, Singapore Airlines Cargo was ranked #7 in Denmark, #8 in Norway, #11 in Sweden and finally #4 in Finland on the CASS Top-10 list of IATA export airfreight carriers.
Growth was attained only in the Finnish market where volumes were up by 193 percent to 151 tonnes and in Norway where volumes increased by 17.6 percent to 470 tonnes, while the carrier's volume in Denmark was down 25,1 percent to 353 tonnes and in Sweden by 26.5 percent to 305 tonnes, all compared to March 2011.
-Markets fluctuate, and for quite a period only the Norwegian market has seen sustained growth. Denmark, Sweden and Finland have seen decline, but this only proves the strength of our hub-philosophy that allows us to fill capacity on our freighters by constantly shifting the emphasis from market to market, says Kim Irmov, Singapore Airlines Cargo regional manager Nordic and Baltic region.
-We are actually in a position to exploit our capacity by over hundred percent, meaning that we fly our five weekly Boeing 747-400 freighters fully booked out of Copenhagen and still truck excess cargo from our region into the carrier's other European hubs such as Amsterdam for export air cargo to Jo-burg, and Brussels for Nordic export air cargo to the USA.
-The Nordic region is actually among Singapore Airlines Cargo's European top-performers, and even if the CASS statistics prove that were are not necessarily gaining in volumes in all Nordic markets, we are still performing nicely as to revenue, which remains the basis for sustained freighter services into and out from the region, says Mr Irmov.
