Mar 07, 2012 (newstodate): Representatives from the Scandinavian civil aviation authorities' security departments are meeting today in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Among the items on the agenda is the issue of the implementation of EU Directive 185 requirements on screening of airfreight shipments and certification of Known Consignors.
-We have invested heavily in information activities to arouse the attention of Norway's airfreight community towards the requirements taking effect from April 29, 2013. But not a single airfreight company in Norway has yet applied for certification, says Jrgen Ingebrigtsen, Norway CAA head of security department.
-The process is thus moving very slowly despite the rather limited time left for action. We have allocated resources to handling of applications but the airfreight industry is manifesting only scant attention, it seems.
Norway has a total of 131 Regulated Agents, but it remains uncertain how many of them will eventually apply.
Given the predominance of seafood commodities in Norway's export airfreight industry, the avilability of certificated Known Consignors should be crucial in securing access to the fast lane towards air transportation to the global market place.
