Mar 28, 2012 (newstodate): Krasnoyarsk Yemelyanovo Airport is reporting a strong growth in cargo volumes in February 2012.
A total of 1,655 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport, an increase by 33 percent, y-o-y.
This brought the total volume of cargo handled during the first two months of 2012 to 2,617 tonnes, up 26 percent, y-o-y.
The airport is growing in volumes, increasing by 40 percent, y-o-y, in 2011, to 18,000 tonnes of cargo and mail, including 12,176 tonnes of domestic cargo, increasing 10 percent, y-o-y, and 5,584 tonnes of international cargo that increased by no less than 309 percent.
Behind the growth are efforts to build the airport into an international air cargo hub for transportation between Europe and Asia.
Among the operators at the airport is the Volge-Dnepr Group's ABC Airlines that is now operating five weekly scheduled freighter flights through the airport.
Since June 1, 2009, the airport is also the technical stop-over hub for Lufthansa Cargo's freighter flights to Northern Asia.
