Mar 01, 2012 (newstodate): Norway is aiming at a significant upgrading of its airport infrastructure.
In the plans is maintenance and upgrading of a number of small and medium-size airports.
A new passenger terminal will be constructed at Bergen Flesland Airport to start operations by 2016, and an extension at Oslo Gardermoen Airport including Terminal 2 will be commissioned in 2017.
Major redevelopment is also to be performed at the airports of Stavanger and Trondheim, and within the coming period a decision will also reached on the construction of a third runway at Oslo Gardermoen Airport as well as the constructon of a second rundway at Bergen Flesland Airport.
In the current airport infrastructure are also 23 small local airports, of which 19 have very limited catchment areas and short runways that cannot be extended due to geophysical conditions.
They may thus be replaced by new and larger airports at Lofoten and at Helgeland with larger catchment areas and better infrastructure.
