Mar 02, 2012 (newstodate): From March 14, 2012, Sweden's Stockholm Arlanda Airport will lose its direct air connection to Lithuania.
From that date, the route operated since May 2009 by Skyways with two daily rotations will be left void of service, leaving travelers between the two countries with the service by Ryanair from Stockholm's off-city airport at Skavsta to Kaunas, west of the Lithuanian capital.
The former Lithuanian national carrier flyLAL also operated the route till its bankruptcy in January 2009, after which Skyways stepped in.
In December 2006, the Latvian carrier airBaltic launched traffic between Vilnius and Stockholm after SAS had retreated from the route, but airBaltic pulled out again in 2010 after revising its strategy in the Baltic region.
