Mar 23, 2012 (newstodate): The European Commission has requested Poland to complete the steps necessary to implement EU rules to ensure that airport charges are transparent and non-discriminatory.
In accordance with EU directive 2009/12, landing fees should be set transparently, fairly and in consultation.
Airports must negotiate the charges with the airlines, as well as inform about the actual costs incurred by them.
EU Member States should also establish an independent institution that will deal with disputes between airports and airlines concerning fees.
The two countries did not meet the March 15 2012 deadline for correcting the situation, and are now requested to respond to the Commission's requirements to avoid further punitive action.
