Mar 09, 2012 (newstodate): Estonia's Tallinn Airport saw its cargo volumes growing by no less than 96.4 percent in February 2012.
A total of 1,774 tonnes of cargo and mail was handled at the airport, including 1,670 tonnes of cargo and 104 tonnes of mail that increased by 102 and 30 percent, respectively, compared to 2011.
For January-February 12, the airport has handled a total of 3,110 tonnes of cargo and mail, an increase by 75.7 percent, y-o-y.
Totals included 2,900 tonnes of cargo, up 80.2 percent, and 210 tonnes of mail, an increase by 28 percent.
Driving the strong increase in air cargo were incoming shipments, totaling 1,470 tonnes in February, an increase by 108 percent.
These shipments are primarily ex-China imports for Russia carried by the Turkish airline ULS that operates up to six weekly Airbus A300 freighters into Tallinn Airport, and then trucked into Russia from Tallinn.
This traffic was at a low until March 2011 due to new Russian customs procedures at the border points.
