Mar 19, 2012 (newstodate): Contrary to earlier announcements, Estonian Air still sees a future for the SAAB 340.
The carrier last week took delivery of a third SAAB 340 on a lease contract expiring by the end of this year.
Already from the end of this month, the aircraft will be used to serve Estonian Air flights to nearby regions.
-Estonian Air needs the third SAAB to serve its increased summer flight schedule. At the same time, we are working to replace the existing SAAB fleet with new generation turboprop fleet. The time schedule for the change is depending on the availability of these planes, the company says in a release.
The strategy of Estonian Air is to build Tallinn Airport as its hub by improving its flight network to attract more passengers from neighboring countries, including Finland, to compensate for the limited size of its Estonian home market.
