Mar 30, 2012 (newstodate): Nagorno-Karabagh's Stepanakert Airport has been declared ready for traffic numerous times since 2008. Now another opening date has been set.
According to press reports, the airport will see the first flight operation in June or July this year.
Stepanakert Airport, in the disputed Nagorno-Karabagh region under de-facto Armenian control since the war with Azerbaijan in the 90ies, has been inoperative for 20 years, but plans are to reopen it with flights from Yerevan, Armenia.
The enclave has set up its own airline, Artsakh Air, owned by the government, that will take delivery of a yet-unidentified aircraft as a gift from Argentinean-Armenian Eduardo Eurnekian, who owns Armenian International Airports that manages Armenia's Yerevan Zvartnots Airport under a contract since December 17, 2001.
