Feb 09, 2012 (newstodate): Poland's Warsaw Chopin Airport ended the year 2011 with its best-ever result in air cargo volumes.
A total of 43,600 tonnes of cargo was handled by the airport, including 42,900 tonnes of international cargo, up 6.5 percent, and 740 tonnes of domestic cargo, up 29 percent, y-o-y.
Imports volumes accounted for the majority of cargo traffic with 25,000 tonnes, while export cargo volumes were 17,800 tonnes, and mail volumes were 16,900 tonnes.
The most important cargo destinations by volume included Cologne, 7,600 tonnes, Leipzig 6,100 tonnes, Chicago 3,700 tonnes, New York/Newark 3,400 tonnes, and Shanghai 2,800 tonnes.
In 2011, the biggest cargo carriers at Warsaw Chopin Airport were LOT Polish Airlines 14,400 tonnes, UPS Airlines 11,100 tonnes, European Air Transport 6,300 tonnes, Sprint Air 1,800 tonnes, and Air Contractors 1,600 tonnes.
