Feb 08, 2012 (newstodate): While several airlines are rushing in to fill the void left by the demise of Hungary's carrier Malev, at least one is retreating.
American Airlines that earlier announced its opening of seasonal services between New York and Budapest from June 14, 2012, has now taken the route off its network prior to the opening of sales.
American Airlines, now under Chapter 11 protection, launched summer flights on the route from March 6, 2011, offering daily flights using Boeing 767-300 aircraft.
The route was operated in a code-share agreement with its OneWorld Alliance partner Malev, as part of the global flight development plan for trans-Atlantic cooperation announced by American Airlines, British Airways and Iberia Airlines in London on October 6, 2010.
