Feb 22, 2012 (newstodate): Serbia is to make another strong effort in 2012 to be upgraded by the US authority FAA from its current position as Category 2 to the coveted Category 1.
Serbia was downgraded from Category 1 in 2002 and has since made several attempts to regain its position that will allow carriers on Serb registration to launch flights on routes to the USA.
Serbia hopes for a renewed audit by FAA by this autumn to result in an upgrading from 2013.
Serbia is actually the only country in Europe rated as Category 2 after Bulgaria and Ukraine were lifted off the category in 2006.
