Feb 21, 2012 (newstodate): The Serb carrier JAT has retreated from its plans to reopen flights to Libya.
Earlier slated for launch by March 26, 2012, the plans for twice-weekly flights between Belgrade and Tripoli have now been postponed.
One reason for the decision is the continued unrest in Tripoli, but weighing heavily is also the fact that the new situation in Libya has changed. Earlier there were large contingents of Serb workers and staff in Libya, which is not the case now.
The flight would routed via Malta, but JAT will now instead go ahead with plans for reopening flights on a direct route between Belgrade and Malta from June 18. 2012.
