Feb 23, 2012 (newstodate): While Serbia is again raising hopes for FAA's upgrading to Category 1 in 2013, allowing carriers from the country to launch flights into the USA or code-share with other carriers entitled to do so, Belgrade Airport has now launched a tender aiming at trans-Atlantic flights.
The airport is calling interested and qualified parties to participate in a tender for a feasibility study on Transatlantic flights.
Both moves are seen as indications of the great importance attached to the issue of flight connections between Serbia and the USA.
Serbia's national carrier JAT last performed a direct flight between Serbia and the USA in 1992, but the country and JAT have repeatedly made preparations to resume services in expectation of an imminent lifting of the status of Belgrade Airport, yet unrealized, by the FAA.
