Feb 14, 2012 (newstodate): 2011 proved a good year in air cargo for Poland's Katowice Airport.
A total of 12,138 tonnes of air cargo was handled at the airport, an increase by eight percent, y-o-y.
Of the total volume, 7,033 tonnes was export cargo and 5,104 tonnes was import cargo shipments.
The airport is especially strong in cargo charter operations with aircraft up to the size of Boeing 747-400F.
In 2011, these operations included freighter flights to South Africa, Japan, Russia, Turkey and the USA.
Katowice Airport is also the only airport in Poland with regular scheduled freighter services to North America, operated by Cargojet Airways using Boeing 767-300 ERF aircraft between Toronto and Katowice.
