Feb 20, 2012 (newstodate): Only few details have so far surfaced concerning plans by Vilnius, in Lithuania, to launch a new national carrier.
Tentatively named airLituanica, the carrier will be owned 34 percent by the city of Vilnius, 49 percent by a strategic investor, and 17 percent by other Lithuanian shareholders.
But according to press, the driving force behind the initiative, the mayor of Vilnius Mr Arturas Zuokas does not preclude that the yet-unnamed strategic investor may hold op to 51 percent of the shares.
If plans materialize, the new carrier may launch services from spring 2013, probably with turboprop aircraft to serve a regional route network.
