Feb 22, 2012 (newstodate): Lithuania's Kaunas Airport has been picked as a new destination on the route map of the new Icelandic low-cost carrier WOW Air.
Effective from June 11, 2012, WOW Air will introduce a weekly rotation on the route between Keflavik Airport and Kaunas Airport, using Airbus A320 aircraft.
Kaunas will thus become the fledgling carrier's 13th, and first Baltic, destination after Alicante, Basel, Berlin, Krakow, Lyon, Paris, Stuttgart, Warsaw and Zurich first announced.
The direct competitor to WOW Air is Iceland Express that is also launching a new service to Lithuania in summer 2012, offering weekly flights between Keflavik Airport and Vilnius.
The new route to Reykjavik is the 24 destination from Kaunas for the summer of 2012, next to flights to Palma de Mallorca, Malta, Cyprus, Dublin, London (Stansted, Gatwick, Luton), Liverpool, Frankfurt Hahn, Birmingham, Brussels, Bristol, Oslo, Tampere, Edinburgh, Alicante, Rhodes, Kos, Stockholm, Leeds Bradford and Moscow.
