Feb 07, 2012 (newstodate): January 2012 proved to be the best year ever as to passenger volumes at Lithuania's Vilnius Airport.
A total of 129,300 passengers passed through the airport, an increase by 66.1 percent, y-o-y, and a record at the airport.
As one example, the passenger traffic on Moscow route nearly doubled. Utair Aviation has been operating flights to Moscow Vnukovo Airport for four years, Transaero Airlines started flights to Domodedovo Airport from 1 December 1, 2011, and after an eight-year break, Aeroflot will also launch daily services between Vilnius and Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport by the end of March 2012, thus bringing all three Moscow airports within reach of Vilnius.
In 2011, Vilnius Airport handled a total of 1.7 million passengers, an increase by 24.7 percent, y-o-y.
Traffic at Vilnius Airport hit a low by the start of 2009 as the country's leading carrier flyLAL folded its wings.
