Feb 14, 2012 (newstodate): Hungary is set to lose its direct connection to Beijing, China, from the coming month.
Effective from March 5, 2012, the Chinese carrier Hainan Airlines will suspend its services on the route between Beijing and Budapest, currently operated three times weekly with Boeing 767-300 aircraft.
The Chinese launched services on the route on August 2, 2004, in a code-share agreement with Malev, and ambitions were to set up Budapest as a joint Central European passenger and cargo hub.
Hainan Airlines was also considered a potential bidder for Malev during the critical period leading up to the Hungarian carrier's eventual filing for protection.
