Feb 07, 2012 (newstodate): flydubai Cargo is now formally established since the start of this year, and ready to fight for volumes.
From the start, Russia and the CIS markets will be targeted to tap potentials.
-The Russian and CIS markets are largely underserved for cargo operations therefore we see a lot of potential for growth, says Al Ghaith, flydubai CEO.
-At present, the most popular cargo items to the region include car parts imported from the Gulf Co-operation Council, GCC, nations, such as the UAE and Saudi Arabia, and pharmaceutical products from the Subcontinent. Elsewhere on the cargo network, there is particular demand of handicrafts from Kathmandu as well as fruit and vegetables around the GCC countries.
-In all markets outside Dubai, including Russia and the CIS, we work with distributors. flydubai Cargo was launched to support the airlines goal of making the transportation of goods and people across the region via Dubai simple, accessible and affordable and appointing distributors helps us achieve this, says Mr Al Ghaith.
The carrier will accept shipments including perishable items, textiles, electronics, couriered items, mail, pharmaceuticals and general cargo between any points on the network as well as beyond in cooperation with other airlines, and expects to carry 1,500 tonnes of cargo each month on its Boeing 737-800 fleet.
The carrier operates a fleet of 20 Boeing 737-800 aircraft on a network spanning 46 destinations including Baku, Belgrade, Donestsk, Erbil, Kazan, Kharkiv, Kiev, Samara, Sulaimaniyah, Tbilisi, Ufa, Yekaterinburg and Yerevan.
Heading the new department is Mohamed Hassan Ali Salem, Head of Cargo.
