Feb 27, 2012 (newstodate): A french company is stepping in to secure the completion of the modernisation of Tajikistan's Dushanbe Airport.
The airport is amidst a major reconstruction program comprising the construction of a new 11,000 sq m passenger terminal with capacity of handling 500 passengers per hour and increasing the airport's capacity by 2.5 times.
Also in the reconstruction program is the construction of a new ATC tower, three new taxiways, aircraft parking stands and a new apron area.
The project has been contracted to the French company Sofema that has, however not been able to stick to the plans and deadlines.
Instead, the work will now be taken over by the French construction group Vinci, while the French state will invest further in the project to see it to the end.
The project was originally slated for completion in 2011.
