Feb 02, 2012 (newstodate): The first low-cost operator is now to settle at Poland's new Warsaw Modlin Airport, due to open by July 1, 2012.
WIZZ Air has announced its decision to move its operations to Modlin, basing four Airbus A320 aircraft at the airport to provide flights to 19 destinations in Europe.
The move by WIZZ Air is part of the carrier's development plans in Poland and the region.
Among other carriers soon to follow suit is Ryanair.
Earlier serving as a Soviet military air base with a 2,500m runway, Warsaw Modlin Airport has been developed into a civilian airport to relieve pressure on Warsaw Okecie Airport.
The master plan has been designed by UK consultants Stanley Associates and included the construction of a small terminal facility, a medium-sized cargo terminal, and reserved sites for other potential industrial and semi-agricultural processing works in the region.
