Feb 10, 2012 (newstodate): Finnair Cargo rounded off the first month of 2012 with a rather bleak picture of cargo trends.
A total of 12,037 tonnes of cargo was carrier, which was 8.1 percent above January 2011.
While volumes carried on freighters increased by 53.6 percent, y-o-y, to 3,758 tonnes, cargo on scheduled passenger flights dropped 4.2 percent, to 8,271 tonnes, first of all because the crucial Asian traffic loads were only 0.9 percent up, to 6,034 tonnes.
Except for the insignificant domestic segment generating 192 tonnes, up seven percent in January, volumes on all other segments dropped, including Europe that was down 18.8 percent, y-o-y, to 1,425 tonnes.
Finnair Cargo earlier announced that the freighter service between Helsinki and Shanghai, China, will be suspended from March 2012, reflecting the waning demand in a market now over-provided with capacity.
