Feb 03, 2012 (newstodate): Plans for freighter operations from China to Latvia are still on the table and under preparation.
The launch of services was earlier expected by autumn 2011, comprising Korean Air Cargo freighter flights to Riga from Navoi, in Uzbekistan, with incoming shipments from China.
In Latvia, Air Cargo Transit Services, earlier named CargoRix, is partner in the project to import shipments from a yet-undisclosed destination in China to Riga, with some 10 percent destined for the Baltic market and 90 percent transferred to other markets, primarily Russia as well as Belarus, Poland, Ukraine and countries in Western Europe.
The traffic will reportedly be driven by Chinese exporters and freight forwarders, and together with partners including Schenker Latvia, Air Cargo Transit Services will set up a trucking distribution network to reach the final destinations in Russia and Europe.
According to a company spokesperson in Latvia, the project will be launched in 2012.
