Feb 22, 2012 (newstodate): Estonian Air is in the final stage of planning the launch of a new express air cargo product by April 1, 2012.
-We are currently in the process of introducing Embraer aircraft to replace the existing fleet of Bombardier CRJ900, and while both aircraft types are limited in cargo capacity, the Embraer aircraft will actually increase our uplift capacity slightly, says Toomas Orukivi, Estonian Air head of cargo.
-More importantly, Estonian Air is pursuing a strategy of focusing on increasing frequency of flights to a growing number of key European destinations. This means that we will have at least two daily flights to important European airports, creating a traffic system that is favorable to an express cargo product.
-Due to the restrictions on weight and dimensions set by the aircraft fleet, our coming express product will apply to shipments up to 500 kg with limits on dimensions, and it will initially be introduced first on our high-frequency flights from Tallinn to Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo before being rolled out to cover the entire Estonian Air route network.
-We will soon announce a brand name to the product, and all IT systems are already fully capable of handling this new business, says Mr Orukivi.
