Feb 21, 2012 (newstodate): Estonian Air is deep in the process of phasing out its Boeing 737 aircraft, going for an all-Embraer fleet. But at the same time, the carrier is sharpening its focus on air cargo.
-Of course, the change from larger to smaller aircraft is a challenge for Estonian Air Cargo, but we are developing several new tactics to out-balance, and even overtake this handicap, says Toomas Orukivi, Estonian Air head of cargo.
-As a first step, we are now working on an increase of our air cargo trucking services. So far, our focus has been on optimizing the role of air cargo trucking in the Estonian import business, working primarily with Finland's Ospentos, Denmark's Haugsted and Sweden's SACT.
-From now, we are to add an emphasis on ex-Tallinn exports as well, aiming at trucking of air cargo from Estonia to continental airports including Amsterdam, Frankfurt and airports in Scandinavia.
-This will allow Estonian Air to offer enhanced air cargo services to exporters in our market despite the shortfall of flown cargo capacity after the phasing-out of the Boeing services, says Mr Orukivi.
