Feb 13, 2012 (newstodate): Bulgaria is keen to spur the privatisation of the Plovdiv Airport.
Connected with the tender for privatization of the airport, the state also aims at the construction of a new cargo facility and an entire cargo zone.
So far, no parties have however responded to the tender for the cargo terminal and zone, while interest has been shown towards the management of the airport.
The two issues will now be bundled in a new tender round, with hopes for a solution to the cargo issue in the same process.
The Plovdiv Airport's 2,500 m runway allows for traffic with Airbus A320, Boeing 737 and 757 as well as IL-86 and Airbus A310, while operations with AN-124 are performed with weight penalties.
Bulgaria is also tendering the management of the airport at Ruse and Gorna Oryahovica, and these have also not succeeded in attracting foreign investors so far.
