Feb 17, 2012 (newstodate): Air mail is becoming increasingly important for the Latvian carrier airBaltic.
In contrast to cargo, airBaltic's mail volumes have been rising constantly, and over the recent three months the carrier has lifted a total of 1,370 tonnes of mail on its flights.
This corresponds to a 24 percent increase during November 2011-January 2012.
airBaltic has managed to increase its portfolio of postal customers that ship air mail by airBaltic to and from 60 destinations in Europe, Middle East and Russia/CIS via the carrier's hub at Riga Airport, with transfer mail shipments constituting 70 percent of the volumes..
airBaltic now has contracts with 37 international postal companies around the world, compared to 20 contracts only two years ago.
