Feb 10, 2011 (newstodate): In 2011, the fastest-growing Nordic airport as to cargo volumes was Norway's Oslo Gardermoen Airport, while Denmark's Copenhagen Airport retained its undisputed position as the largest in the region.
Oslo Gardermoen Airport grew its volumes in 2011 by 14.1 percent, y-o-y, to 97,801 tonnes, while Copenhagen Airport with a growth by 7.6 percent handled a total of 332,877 tonnes - about twice the volume of the #2 cargo airport in the region: Finland's Helsinki Vaanta Airport where volumes were up eight percent to a total of 169,985 tonnes in 2011.
The third-largest Nordic airport in 2011 was Sweden's Stockholm Arlanda Airport where volumes were 154,224 tonnes, but down 1.2 percent on 2010.
Sweden's second-largest cargo airport, Gothenburg Landvetter Airport also saw its volumes down in 2011, to 41,806 tonnes after a decline by 12.4 percent, y-o-y.
Denmark's second-largest international airport, Billund Airport grew its volumes in 2011 by 2.9 percent to 63,326 tonnes which was a new all-year record.
In the Baltic region, the #1 position as to cargo volumes in 2011 was snatched by Estonia's Tallinn Airport where volumes were up by no less than 53.6 percent, y-o-y, to 18,371 tonnes.
Second came Latvia's Riga Airport with 12,554 tonnes, growing only modestly by three percent, while Lithuania's Vilnius Airport came last with only 5,781 tonnes, but growing 9.2 percent in 2011.
