Feb 03, 2012 (newstodate): Poland's largest airport Warsaw Chopin Airport recorded its best-ever results in cargo volumes in 2011.
The airport handled 43,600 tonnes of cargo in 2011, an increase of 6.8 percent over 2010.
In 2011, totals included 42,900 tonnes of international cargo, up 6.5 percent, and 740 tonnes of domestic cargo, an increase by 29 percent, y-o-y.
Imports accounted for the majority of cargo traffic reaching 25,000 tonnes, while export freight volumes stood at 17,800 tonnes. Mail totaled another 16,900 tonnes.
The most popular cargo destinations by volume included Cologne, 7,600 tonnes, Leipzig 6,100 tonnes, Chicago 3,700 tonnes, New York/Newark 3,400 tonnes, and Shanghai 2,800 tonnes.
The biggest cargo carriers were LOT Polish Airlines with 14,400 tonnes, UPS Airlines 11,100 tonnes, European Air Transport 6,300 tonnes, Sprint Air 1,800 tonnes, and Air Contractors 1,600 tonnes.
