Dec 13, 2012 (newstodate): Russia's Samara Kurumoch International Airport, serving the Volga region, is to be thoroughly redeveloped.
In the plans for upgrading the airport is construction of a new passenger terminal as well as a new cargo handling facility and other infrastructure.
The first phase of the project is slated for completion by the end of 2014.
A second phase will be completed by the end of 2018, comprising an extension of the passenger terminal, new office building and new communications systems.
The airport has two runways of 3,001 m and 2,548 m equipped with Category I ILS.
During January-November 2012, Samara Airport handled 1,750,066 passengers, up 8.6 percent, y-o-y, while cargo and mail volumes increase by 11 percent, y-o-y, to 4,311 tonnes.
