Dec 06, 2012 (newstodate): As in the previous eight months, Latvia's Riga Airport again announced three-digit growth figures for its air cargo volumes in November 2012.
A total of 2,263 tonnes of cargo was handled at Riga Airport, an increase by 105.2 percent, y-o-y, as usual driven by military loads for the ISAF forces in Afghanistan - a traffic booming since April 2012.
January-November loads are 29,968 tonnes, up 162.1 percent, y-o-y.
The airport's performance in passenger volumes is less impressive, with a drop by 2.1 percent, y-o-y, in November to 323.118 passengers, and a decline by seven percent during January-November, to 4.4 mio.
The decline in passenger volumes is primarily due to the scaled-down traffic by airBaltic that is now fighting to regain its breath through reshaping its business, cutting costs and rethinking its strategy in an effort to return to profitability.
