Dec 06, 2012 (newstodate): The Icelandair Group has now decided on its future aircraft fleet of Icelandair.
Icelandair has placed orders with Boeing for delivery of 12 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, comprising both MAX 8 and MAX 9 aircraft.
Icelandair Group currently operates an all-Boeing fleet of 23 Boeing 757-200 aircraft including four freighters.
The new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft will complement the existing Boeing 757 fleet.
Icelandair and Boeing will now work out to finalize the details before announcing delivery plans.
The Boeing 737 MAX will replace the current program of Boeing 737NG aircraft, with the first aircraft to be delivered in 2017.
The MAX 8 will have the capacity to carry 162 passengers over 6,704 km, while the larger MAX 9 will lift 180 passengers over 6,6658 km, in both cases promising a 13 percent fuel-efficiency over today's most fuel-efficient single-aisle airplanes.
