Dec 17, 2012 (newstodate): The Faroe Islands will have to do without Atlantic Airways' Airbus A319 during the coming Christmas peak.
The aircraft was hit by a hi-loader during cargo loading at Copenhagen Airport on December 6, 2012, and has suffered structural damage that requires repair at Airbus facilities.
The carrier has established a temporary schedule to cope with the passenger traffic, using its fleet of two Avro RJ85 and one RJ100 aircraft, but does not preclude that more capacity must be leased in.
Atlantic Airways expects the repair works to be completed between Christmas and New Year, and the A319 has been set up for service again from the start of the new year.
The situation has required Atlantic Airways to turn to maritime transportation of cargo and mail volumes short-shipped after the incident.
