Dec 03, 2012 (newstodate): Moscow Domodedovo Airport has now seen the opening of the first scheduled Airbus A380 route into Russia.
Starting from December 1, 2012, Emirates is operating the mega-jumbo on the route between Dubai and Moscow Domodedovo on a daily basis.
To facilitate the A380 operations, Moscow Domodedovo Airport has undergone a comprehensive project including the acquisition of all pertinent GSE systems for ground handling of the aircraft.
The new infrastructure includes two-level bridges for boarding and disembarkation, special catering vehicles, and Vestergaard Elephant de-icing vehicles capable of serving the large aircraft.
The airport's runways and taxiway system has also been certified to handling of the Airbus A380 aircraft that first visited Domodedovo in 2009 on a presentation tour.
