Dec 20, 2012 (newstodate): Finnair is to bolster its unique position in services between Europe and China with the opening of a fifth destination in China.
Starting from June 14, 2013, the carrier will launch flights from Helsinki to Xian, becoming the first European airline to connect this city with Europe by direct non-stop flights.
The flight program comprising three weekly rotations will continue until the end of the summer schedule on October 26, 2013.
Earlier this year, Finnair became the first airline to directly connect Europe with Chongqing, and Finnair also flies to Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong.
Finnair maintains its goal of doubling its Asian revenue by 2020, and besides its growing China traffic the carrier is now operating flights from Helsinki to Bangkok, Delhi, Hanoi, Nagoya, Osaka, Seoul, Singapore and Tokyo.
The carrier is now operating a fleet of 15 Airbus A330/A340 on its intercontinental route network, and expects deliveries of the first of 11 Airbus A350-900 aircraft from 2015.
