Dec 19, 2012 (newstodate): Finnair's Christmas spirit is probably not lifted by the recent CASS statistics for October 2012.
Figures show that Finnair Cargo is loosing its traditionally firm grip on the home market with a market share now below the traditional 50 percent-mark.
In October 2012 Finnair thus held 42.5 percent of the Finnish IATA export market, compared to 52.3 percent in October 2011.
In October 2012, Finnair Cargo saw its volumes down by 19.6 percent in a market where the total decline in IATA cargo was only 0.7 percent.
In October 2011 the carrier also lost 11.2 percent, but in a market that was down by 18.9 percent, y-o-y.
In October 2011, six out of the Top-10 IATA carriers lost volumes in Finland, while in October 2012 only two out of the Top-10 carriers were down in volumes - besides Finnair Cargo only Cargolux was also down, albeit by a moderate rate at 2.4 percent, y-o-y.
So, even if the Finnish IATA cargo market dropped by 0.7 percent in October, eight out of the Top-10 carriers still managed to grow their volumes including #2, Lufthansa Cargo with 45 percent, #3 KLM Cargo by 40 percent, #4 Singapore Airlines Cargo 71.5 percent, #5 SAS Cargo 4.9 percent and not forgetting #8, Korean Airlines Cargo that saw volumes up by 188.8 percent, y-o-y.
