Dec 05, 2012 (newstodate): Lofty ambitions clashed with harsh realities - and that has spelled the end for Sky Srpska even before it ever took flight.
In 2007, the government of Republika Srpska, an entity wihin Bosnia and Herzegovina, was instrumental in setting up a new airline, Sky Srpska at Banja Luka Airport that was redeveloped after the civil war period but still sees little traffic.
Sky Srpska will now be officially closed down from the start of 2013 as the entity has withdrawn from funding the carrier that never succeeded in leasing any aircraft.
In 2011 the airport that has one 2,503 m runway handled 8,267 passengers, and in the first 10 months of this year, passengers volumes were 5,109, with traffic provided by BH Airlines with four weekly calls at Banja Luka Airport en-route between Sarajevo and Zurich.
