Nov 22, 2012 (newstodate): Plans for offering export cargo freighter uplift by ULS from Tallinn, Estonia, and beyond by interline partners are moving forward - but slowly...
ULS operates 35-40 monthly freighters from Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport to Tallinn Airport carrying shipments destined for the Russian market, and with the new activity the carrier will capitalize on the space available on the empty return flights to Turkey.
Crucial to the business case is for ULS Estonia to obtain IATA recognition granting access also to the CASS invoice clearing services, and this has turned out to be a rather lengthy affair.
-All preparations have been completed, but to gain IATA membership a candidate airline is required to sponsorship by two IATA member airlines. We have firm commitments by two such IATA members, but they still need to deliver their formal letters of recommendation to IATA. A process entirely beyond our control, says a leading ULS Estonia representative.
-As time has now lapsed for us to get airborne with our product from Estonia in time to benefit from the pre-Christmas peak, we would now prefer to delay our launch of business till spring 2013 as our traffic will also be reined in during Christmas and the slack period following.
-Anyhow, preparations are made, we are ready to move and once the IATA membership is secured we can launch our offers in an orderly fashion. In the meantime we are open as always for ad-hoc assignments with customers, he says.
