Nov 30, 2012 (newstodate): Ukraine's Cherkasy Airport may see its future as a dedicated air cargo airport.
The airport, with one 2,500m runway, is included in an ambitious program for redeveloping Ukraine's airport infrastructure comprising all existing airports in the country and running till 2023.
The airport is located close to Kiev Boryspil International Airport where the focus is on passenger traffic, leaving Cherkasy Airport with the opportunity of developing its role in the air cargo industry besides serving as an alternative to Kiev Boryspil under adverse weather conditions.
The airport regained its international status in 2009 and is now primarily serving corporate air traffic as well as ad-hoc charters.
