Nov 07, 2012 (newstodate): Swissport has called on IATA to draw its attention to a severe problem developing between its Ukrainian subsidiary Swissport Ukraine and its co-owner, Ukraine International Airlines.
Swissport Ukraine launched business from June 1, 2006, at Kiev Boryspil Airport in a JV with Ukraine International Airlines holding 30 percent of the shares.
Since UAI was taken over by Israeli national Aron Mayberg in 2011, Swissport Ukraine has however been targeted by what is terms "a hostile corporate raider attack" by UAI and Mr Mayberg who claim that their minority rights have been violated.
The case has been brought before the Ukrainian courts, but Swissport complains that the handling of the case has been tainted by several last-minute changes of judges and interim judgements in favor of UIA and Mr Mayberg without a chance for Swissport to be properly heard.
According to Swissport, UAI has also repeatedly failed to pay for handling services rendered at Tel Avia, Zurich and Geneva, forcing Swissport to require prepayments.
Citing this evidence of an airline in financial troubles, Swissport has therefore suggested that IATA review the Ukrainian airline's IOSA certification and safety matters brought before IATA concerning Ukraine International Airlines.
