Nov 01, 2012 (newstodate): Launching business in Copenhagen, Denmark, only from July 1, 2012, Swissport has been on a fast growth curve.
Yesterday's announcement of Lufthansa Cargo's decision to move from Spirit Air Cargo Handling to Swissport added one more prestigious airline customer to the handling company's list of principals.
Lufthansa Cargo is moving to Swissport from December 1, 2012, as is also Finnair Cargo that announced its decision already on September 26, 2012, being today served by WFS in Copenhagen.
Launch customers with Swissport Denmark were SWISS World Cargo and Virgin Atlantic, and from September 3, 2012, Air France, KLM and Martinair have also been handled by Swissport Denmark as a result of the global contract between these partners.
So far Swissport has thus been successful in attracting carriers already operating in the Danish airfreight market.
-By opening up cargo handling business at Copenhagen Airport we are aiming not just to take a slice of the existing market, but rather to grow the market by attracting new airline customers to Copenhagen Airport. We will strive to make Copenhagen Airport even more attractive, Nils Pries Knudsen, Swissport Snr VP Europe Cargo Services division, said to newstodate in May 2012.
Swissport, however, still remains to prove its worth in adding new cakes to the table rather than just grabbing slices of the existing market.
Swissport operates the former Novia Cargo Terminal on the airport's eastern premises, left vacant after Spirit Air Cargo Handling's move to new facilities from March 13, 2012.
