Nov 28, 2012 (newstodate): Shanghai was the dominating IATA airfreight destination for Swedish exporters in October 2012.
Topping the CASS statistics, Shanghai accounted for 1,083 tonnes of air cargo and increasing 36.4 percent, y-o-y.
IATA airline revenues from this traffic also increased, but only 24.5 percent, y-o-y, as the average rate dropped by 8.7 percent while "other charges", notably security and fuel surcharges, increased by a hefty 42.7 percent.
Shanghai maintained a comfortable distance to #2 on the list, Chicago that attracted 434 tonnes after declining 23.8 percent in volumes but 35.2 percent in revenues with rates down 15 percent, y-o-y.
#3 was Seoul, 326 tonnes and down 21.2 percent, followed by Tokyo, 315 tonnes and down 16 percent, and Jo'burg with 270 tonnes and up three percent.
Among the 25 carriers listed, all US destinations were down year-on-year, including also #11, Newark down 51.6 percent to 193 tonnes, #17, Washington down 57.9 percent to 155 tonnes, #20, Atlanta down 24.4 percent to 130 tonnes, and #22, New York, down 15.2 percent to 105 tonnes in October 2012.
IATA exports to the Indian market performed well, seen from the Top-25 destinations list, with #7, Mumbai rising 52.2 percent to 240 tonnes, #16, Delhi up 93.8 percent to 163 tonnes, and #24, Bengaluru increasing 13.4 percent to 91 tonnes.
On the positive side was also Osaka, #14, where volumes were up 88.7 percent, y-o-y, to 174 tonnes.
