Nov 06, 2012 (newstodate): Serbia's hopes for regaining its Category 1 rating from the US FAA's International Aviation Safety Assessment program were cooled again in November.
The agency has just published its latest country list - and Serbia remains placed in Category 2, as has been its fate since 2002.
With this rating, Serbia remains barred from establishing new routes to the USA due to lack of compliance with ICAO safety standards.
Serbia has worked intensively for years to be upgraded into Category 1 as most other European countries, but so far with no success.
-Carriers from Category 2 countries will not be permitted to commence service to the United States while in Category 2 status, although they may conduct services if operated using aircraft wet-leased from a duly authorized and properly supervised U.S. carrier or a foreign air carrier from a Category 1 country that is authorized to serve the United States with its own aircraft, FAA states.
In Europe, only Serbia, Montenegro and Ukraine are now rated as Category 2 countries.
