Nov 21, 2012 (newstodate): The construction of a new airport at Brasov, Romania, is again-again on the agenda.
After a tender process won by Vectra Service SRL, a contract for construction of a 2,850m runway of the Brasov-Ghimbav International Airport has now been signed with the County Council, and works should start in 2013.
Also in 2013, the county council will open a tender for construction of a new passenger terminal with capacity of handling one mio passengers after completion of its first phase.
Following a tender in 2008, the Canadian company Intelcan Technosystems Inc. emerged as the majority shareholder of airport, and rights to manage the Brasov-Ghimbav International Airport.
The entire project is much delayed beyond the initial plans that called for opening of flights already by early 2010.
