Nov 13, 2012 (newstodate): October 2012 proved to be a strong month in cargo volumes at Latvia's Riga Airport.
While the statistics in 2012 have been overwhelmingly dominated by the large volumes of cargo carried from Riga by US freighters to the ISAF forces in Afghanistan, other commercial airlines also report significant increases in volumes during October.
Thus the Latvian airline airBaltic carried 668 tonnes, the largest monthly volume so far in 2012, and brought its January-October totals to 6,211 tonnes.
Operating for DHL, European Air Transport also saw its volumes on top in October, with 176 tonnes, with 10-month totals at 1,221 tonnes.
Other airlines that topped in October were Aeroflot, 42 tonnes, Lufthansa 64 tonnes, Spring Air 50 tonnes, and Transaero with 19 tonnes in October.
In total 2,448 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport in October 2012, up eight percent, y-o-y, while 10-year totals accrued to 27,705 tonnes, an increase by 168.2 percent, y-o-y.
