Nov 23, 2012 (newstodate): Umeaa, in Northern Sweden, has been selected as a new hub by the Swedish carrier Nordic Air Sweden, so far based at Stockholm and formerly named Air Sweden before a new ownership took over in 2012.
Starting from February 2013, the ambitious carrier plans to build a route network connecting Northern Sweden with a number of European destinations by direct flights, replacing the existing requirement for transfers at Stockholm Arlanda Airport.
The network will comprise flights from three other cities in Northern Sweden to and from Umeaa Airport, while routes will be established from there to Germany, the UK, France, Greece and Lebanon.
The carrier is to introduce two Embraer 195 aircraft in production prior to February 2013, while an Airbus A320 will so far be dedicated to charter operations.
