Nov 13, 2012 (newstodate): The process in Denmark for shippers to register for approval as Known Consignors according to the EU Directive No 185 is moving forward - but still at a slow pace.
As of now, a total of 14 companies have completed the certification process, and about 10 others are now awaiting the final inspection ahead of certification.
According to the Danish Trafikstyrelsen, about 250-350 companies and sites in Denmark will eventually require certification as Known Consignors in order to have airfreight export shipments moving in the fast lane, cleared for transportation.
First to obtain certification in Denmark in March 2012 was Viking Life Equipment, followed shortly after by Danish companies BASF and Vitrex.
The EU Directive No 185 takes full effect from April 29, 2013, after which date companies that have not been certified will have all shipments screened at airports prior to transportation.
