Nov 19, 2012 (newstodate): Kazakhstan has started work on renovating the airport at Taraz and building new infrastructure.
In the project is the reconstruction by the start of 2013 of the airport's existing 2,900m runway, as well as construction of a new cargo terminal.
The airport is located in a region serving as a cross-roads of cargo transportation by air and railroad between Central Asia, Russia, the Caucasus and neighboring China.
Participating in the project are the Taraz regional authority and the Kazakh airline SCAT.
